How to fix IMAP connectivity problems
If you connect using the IMAP option but get an email error message, try the following steps:
- Check if you have two-step authorization (login). This option means that after you have logged in with a generic password, your email service provider can send you a verification password (via text message or email). Unfortunately, we do not support 2-step authorization. To solve this problem, you need to generate a one-time password in your email provider's settings and log in with that password. Here's an example on Yahoo regarding the one-time password (application-specific password): https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN15241.html.
- Check the hostname. This is usually "imap.<your hostname>". For example, for the email "yourname@google.com", the host would be imap.google.com. In some cases, the "mail" is added to "imap.mail.google.com". If you have a custom email (domain), check the settings of your email provider.
- Check to see if the IMAP login option is enabled on your email service provider.
- If you are logged in with Outlook email with the IMAP option and get an error, try logging in with the Outlook standalone option (for iOS and Android versions) or Live (iOS version only).
If the email mailbox is hosted on Google/Yandex/Yahoo/Outlook or another large provider, the only way to connect to these mailboxes likely is to generate a specific App Password and log in with it in our app.
